The HBRG Mammal Atlas is coordinated by Ro Scott. The data used for the preparation of the maps in this part of the site were provided by a large number of HBRG members and others, and collated in a data-sharing project in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, funded by Scottish Natural Heritage. They are provisional maps - in other words they are to show you where and for what species more records are required. Please study the maps and fill in any gaps.

Left: Coverage to date (June 2006) for the Atlas in Highland. The larger the dot, the more species recorded in that 10km square. The usual HBRG 'blobs' in Assynt, Skye & Lochalsh and the Moray Firth area are evident, with poorer cover elsewhere. Nevertheless, the extent of cover is impressive. The individual species maps show obvious gaps for many common and widespread species.  These maps are not filtered by date class, so some of the records are historic.

Cetaceans have not been included.

Useful data on small mammals can be gained from bird pellets and other skeletal remains.
